After hundreds of years of trying to push em’ aside, it’s time to work together to make things right

Wild was recorded at an occupation of Lana Popham’s Office (NDP Minister of Agriculture) in late September. This occupation was in solidarity with The Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw Nation who have stood in firm opposition to fish farms in their territory for over 30 years.

50+ people occupied the office for the majority of the day to highlight the urgent need to ban open-net fish farms from coastal waters. These farms are breeding grounds for disease and cancers and are having dire impacts on wild salmon populations, many of which migrate right through the waters that are lined with fish farms.

On the day that I write this, brave members of The Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw Nation, and many supporters from around the region, have been occupying a Marine Harvest Fish Farm for 150 days, calling for the government to evict Marine Harvest and “cleanse our waters” of fish farms.

Wild Salmon are the lifeblood of this coast and need protection desperately.
